Have a Positively Awesome New Year

Do you know a person who you are positive lives solely to annoy you? Well, news flash: they don’t. Chances are, they live solely to please themselves – annoying others is simply a way for them to do that.

You know who I’m talking about; it’s your sibling, peer, or coworker who seems to be channeling Big Brother. They’re constantly looking over your shoulder, gleefully shouting your failures… and whispering (or somehow missing) your successes.

Maybe its not even that; someone who always wakes up on the wrong side of the bed, and never has anything positive to say about anything or anyone, can be just as annoying as someone who torments you. What starts as a simple pesk (one, though, that cannot be rid of with a fly swatter) can escalate into something much more. But, as you’ve asked yourself so many times, what can you do?!

The first step to solving most problems is taking ownership over it, and that is especially the case here. It’s not your fault that these people are in need of a serious attitude adjustment. And while it is not your fault, if you’re being affected by it, then it’s your problem.

By taking ownership of the problem, you no longer limit yourself to suffering. Instead, you give yourself the option to deal with it, and more often than not, if you have this option you’ll find you can’t really complain about the issue anymore, because you’ve given yourself the tools to solve it.

So, you have taken ownership over the problem. You have decided that you don’t deserve to be constantly put down, or surrounded by negative energy. One solution is to simply rid yourself of the people who you feel bring you down. Of course, you don’t want to burn bridges; or be as rude to the other person are they have been to you.

You can also try to meet new people, who share your interests, and are positive. It is said that your attitude is partly defined by the attitudes of the 5 closest people around you. Think about that – are the 5 people you’re closest with, the people who you want to be like?

If surrounding yourself with positive people isn’t an option, then you’ll need to focus on yourself. The truth is, these people can only bring you down if you allow them to. So, don’t!  Create an aura of positivity around yourself, and then no matter how hard they try (even if they don’t realize what they’re doing), their negativity can’t affect you. Plus, these people might learn from your example and be inspired to change their own ways!

Sometimes when dealing with problems involving other people, we have to look inside ourselves for the solution. Even though it isn’t directly our problem, we can benefit from the solution, and inspire others to do the same. Being positive makes a great New Year’s Resolution, or simply something intriguing to think about as the year goes on.

Happy New Year, and thanks for reading!
